Appleton Radon Testing
What’s Radon Gas?
Radon is a common carcinogen. It is known to cause lung cancer in children and adults.
38%+ of houses in the area have a radon gas concentration near or above the carcinogenic level.
Radon naturally occurs in the dirt, not the building. No property, new or old, is fully encapsulated against radon gas.
Every property interfaces with the ground beneath it in a different way. This is part of the reason why homes next door to each other have majorly different radon gas saturation.
Radon concentration will shift daily and with the seasons inside of a safe range. One-time radon measurement is a snapshot and an accurate bellwether of whether or not the home has a radon gas issue.
Radon gas has a half-life of about half a week. That means radon concentration won’t be any higher if the structure is closed for months or years.
Houses are not built to be totally draft-proof.
Vapors can infiltrate through any grounded vent in the property such as drains, plumbing pipes, and even minor imperfections in the foundation.
The method to know confidently the concentration of radon in the structure is to order a radon test.
Measuring a house for radon is a special service when completed concurrently with a property purchase.
A radon technician will situate the radon gas probes in the house. Radon probes will be placed in crawl spaces, the level above crawl spaces, and any room touching the earth. Typically multiple devices are located in the house for the radon gas measurement.
The radon specialist will seal every window and door, seal the flue on the chimney, and make certain the heating and cooling system is functioning in the required manner. The radon gas specialist will also treat every indicated window with tamper indication tape to confirm that closed home standards are upheld.
The radon apparatus are stored in the structure for a few days recording the amount of radon gas in the property. A specialist will return to the home once the radon testing is finished to return the devices and create a report.
